Growing Instructions

Growth Habit: Prolific. Upright bushy growth to 3-4 feet with 1 1/2"-2 1/2" double and semi double petite, yet sturdy bright pink blooms. 

Sun Requirements: Full sun

Soil Preference: Average, well-drained soil

When to Plant: Direct seed after last frost OR start indoors 4 weeks before last frost

How to Plant:  

Direct sow:  sow seeds ¼” deep after the last frost.  Zinnia seeds should germinate in 14-21 days. Thin young plants 9 to 12 inches apart.

Transplant: sow seeds indoors ¼” deep in flats or containers 4 weeks before last frost. Cover seeds lightly with vermiculite or plastic cover to help maintain moisture. Keep soil surface moist until germination.

Germination Tip: Using a heat mat is beneficial for a more accurate germination; 5 to 7 days at (21 to 24c). Lower temperatures will cause germination to be slower, up to 21 days. Once seeds are germinated maintain daytime heat mat temp to 21 degrees and lower nighttime to 18 degrees.

Hardening Zinnia before transplanting:  Reduce water for a few days prior to transplanting outdoors. Place your seed trays of pots in a sheltered area with partial shade during the day. Bring in your plants every night. Gradually expose plants to full sun over a 1-week period. Plan to transplant 1 week after risk of frost has passed. Your zinnias are hardened and ready to bloom! 🤍

** Do not allow zinnia to be root bound, and/or do not disturb the roots. Transplant shock or other stress event may cause double-flowering varieties to revert to single bloom until period of shock has passed.

Spacing tip: Make sure to leave plenty of air circulation when spacing your zinnias out. Zinnias spaced 12 inches apart should have sufficient air circulation to prevent common conditions like powdery mildew.

When to Harvest: Harvest Zinnia through Summer and into Fall. Harvest regularly to encourage bushier growth and increase yield. Best time is in the morning after the dew has evaporated. Evenings are also effective.

How to Harvest:  Harvest blooms when almost fully open. Deadhead regularly for extended flowering. Be sure to cut to have a stem as long as possible, while making sure enough nods are left on the plant for future production. 

Uses: Elegant cut flowers, lasting 5-7 days. Attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies.
