Radish Seeds - Minowase Daikon
(Raphanus sativus) 45-55 days to maturity.
Minowase Daikon Radishes are a wonderful crop with so many uses! Their brilliant white roots can grow 2-3 inches wide and 1-2 feet long! Planting in deep, sandy loam soil is best for healthy, long roots. Minowase Radishes can be used in stews, soups, stir fries or pickled! They can also be eaten raw, but their flavour will be more bitter - cook or pickle if a sweeter flavour is desired. Enjoy!
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
TIMING: Direct sow outdoors as soon as the soil is workable. Plant again mid-Summer for a Fall harvest.
GERMINATION: 5-10 days. Seeds will struggle to germinate in soil below 5°C. Keep soil moist until germination.
SEEDING: Sow seeds 1/2” deep. Thin plants to 4”-6” apart. Space rows 12”-18” apart.
GROWING: Deep, well-draining soil is best. Can tolerate poor soil, but will perform better in fertile soil. Consistent moisture is key to growing tasty and tender daikon radishes. Prefers growing in cooler weather. Spicy flavour is often a sign of too much heat or too little water.
HARVESTING: Pull roots when their diameter is 2-3 inches.
