Okra Seeds - Red Burgundy
(Abelmoschus esculentus) 65 days to maturity.
Red Burgundy Okra, a member of the Mallow family, has beautiful creamy yellow hibiscus-esque blooms that grow into edible red pods. Best harvested when 3-4 inches long, okra is quite tender when young. Red Burgundy Okra was developed in the early 80’s in South Carolina, growing to be the All-American Selection (AAS) winner in 1988. The lovely red pods will turn green once cooked. Plants can reach 4-5 feet tall.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
TIMING: Start plants indoors 4-5 weeks before the last frost date. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors after all risk of frost has passed and the soil is warm.

SEEDING: Sow seeds 1/4” deep. Space plants 12-18” apart. Space rows 36” apart.
GROWING: Okra loves the heat! Plant in the sunniest part of your garden. Transplant seedlings deeply, up to their first set of true leaves. Heavy feeders—top up amendments before plants set fruit, fish and seaweed fertilizers work well.
HARVESTING: Pick pods when they are young and tender, for both the best fruit and to keep your plants producing.
