Nasturtium Seeds - Alaska Mix
(Tropaeolum majus) Annual. 55-65 days to maturity.
Alaska Nasturtiums are a beautiful variation of a classic companion plant. Their variegated foliage is truly stunning, with leaves that look dipped and splattered with cream colored paint. Plants tend to be compact, with blooms ranging in color from peach, yellow, orange and cherry. Alaska Nasturtiums’ blooms, leaves and seed pods are all edible, adding a peppery punch of color and flavor to your favorite Summer salads!
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
TIMING: Start seeds indoors 5-6 weeks before final frost OR direct sow outdoors in late-Spring. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors, after risk of frost has passed.
GERMINATION: 6-14 days. Cover seeds well with soil, they require darkness to germinate. Keep soil moist.
SEEDING: Sow seeds 1/2” deep. Space plants 8”-12” apart.
GROWING: Full sun to partial shade. Prefers poor soil, nutrient rich soil will lead to more leaf growth than flowers. Excellent along garden borders. Nasturtiums are a companion plant for many. Deadhead regularly, this encourages further growth.
HARVESTING: Pick flowers and leaves as needed, use them fresh as they don’t dry well. Seeds can be picked while still green and pickled—use them as you would capers.
