Mimosa Seeds - Sensitive Plant
(Mimosa pubica) Zones 10 -12.
Fabaceae (Pea) Family. Native to Brazil. Grown as an annual in northern climates, plants can reach 2 feet tall. Its leaves will droop when touched, then come back to life. Small pink flower clusters adorn this captivating plant in Summer. Keep soil consistently moist.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds for 24 hours, start with boiling water. Repeat if needed for seeds to sink.
TIMING: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before final frost date. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors, after frost.
GERMINATION: 20-40 days. Prefers soil temperatures of 20°C for germination. Keep soil moist until germination.
SEEDING: Sow seeds 1/8” deep. Space plants 12” apart.
GROWING: Full sun to partial shade. Keep soil consistently moist. Native to humid conditions, misty regularly in the Summer. Nutrient rich soil and regular fertilizing is best. Can also be grown indoors as a lovely house plant, best in a room around 20°C with indirect light.
