Winter Density (odd name, we know...) is #1 for cold hardiness. No, it won't hold up in 30 below, but it does do extremely well into the Fall & even early Winter with protection.

Winter density is a mix between romaine & butterhead lettuce (stable open pollinated cross, not a hybrid). Heads grow upright like romaine, but leaves are more tender than crisp.
