Cornaceae (Dogwood) Family. Native range—ON to QC. Good as a windbreak, can help stabilize slopes, tolerates wet soil well. White flowers in Spring. Tolerant of Juglone, a chemical produced by most trees in the Walnut family.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
For best results, sow outdoors in Fall, mulch beds. If sowing indoors...
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Mix seeds with a moistened grow medium 4x seed volume. Place in a plastic bag or container.
STRATIFICATION: 120 days cold/moist (5°C). Place plastic bag with seeds and soil in your fridge, inspect periodically for even moisture.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds 3/8” deep. Soil temperatures around 15°C are best for germination. Water evenly and regularly.
GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 60-90 days.
GROWING: Grows well in part shade.
