Dogwood Seeds - Pagoda (Alternate-Leaved)
(Cornus alternifolia) Perennial. Zones 3 - 7. Cornaceae (Dogwood) Family. Native range—Manitoba to NFLD. Can grow 10-25 feet tall and 20-25 feet wide. Tolerates shade well. Interesting horizontal branch pattern. White flower clusters in Spring turn to blue Fall berries, birds love!
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
For best results, sow outdoors at end of Summer (Aug). If sowing indoors...
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Mix seeds with a moistened grow medium 4x seed volume. Place in a plastic bag or container.
STRATIFICATION: 60 days warm/moist (15°C), a spot out of direct light is good. Monitor for mold. 90 days cold/moist (5°C), in your fridge is a good spot for this. Check on periodically.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds 1/4” deep. Alternating soil temperatures during the day (20°C) and night (10°C) can aid germination. Water evenly and regularly.
GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 60-90 days.
