Dianthus Seeds - Chabaud Orange Sherbet
(Dianthus caryophyllus) Annual. 130-140 days to maturity.
Chabaud Orange Sherbet is a classic French carnation with extraordinary coloration. Its blooms are a mix of peach, apricot and even deeper orange and raspberry hues. Some frilly petals look like they were gently dipped in paint or almost set ablaze. Tall stems and their extremely long vase life, make them an excellent choice for cut flowers. Chabaud Orange Sherbet Dianthus have clove scented petals that will fill onlookers with calm nostalgia.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
TIMING: Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before final frost date. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors, after frost.
GERMINATION: 7-14 days. Keep soil moist until germination, bottom watering is best.
SEEDING: Sow seeds on the soils surface, tamp down gently. Space plants 6” apart.
GROWING: Full sun. Prefers nutrient rich, well-draining soil. Can benefit from light support to keep stems straight. Deadhead spent blooms to promote further growth. Very aromatic plants. Flowers start blooming late Summer, preferring cooler days.
HARVESTING: Excellent as cut flowers, will last up to 7 days in a vase. Pick when flowers are mostly open. Edible petals can be used fresh in salads and desserts.
