Columbine Seeds - Double Mix
(Aquilegia vulgaris ‘Double Mix’) Perennial. Zones 4 - 9.
Double Mix Columbine blooms emit a gentle elegance. Their frilly flowers grow in a wide range of colours: pink, red, white, purple and yellow. Plants will self seed readily, establishing themselves as a joyful patch before too long. It can take until their second season to bloom, but from there on they’ll put on a yearly display, from mid Spring to Summer. This Double Mix Columbine variety is very attractive to pollinators! Watching hummingbirds feed from fresh blooms is like no other, we can’t wait for you to see for yourselves!
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
SEED PRE-TREATMENT: Place seed packet in the fridge for 7 days before sowing.
TIMING: Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before final Spring frost date. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors.
GERMINATION: 21-28 days. Seeds require light to germinate. Bottom watering is best to not disturb seeds. Keep soil moist. Seeds prefer soil that is between 20-24°C for germination.
SEEDING: Sow seeds on the soil surface, tamp down gently. Space plants 10-16” apart.
GROWING: Prefers partial shade, can tolerate full sun if kept well watered. Nutrient rich soil is best. Excellent flower to grow in the shade of other larger plants. Will easily self-seed.
HARVESTING: Pick stems with half their blooms open. A whimsical addition to fresh floral arrangements.
