Boxwood Seeds - Japanese Littleleaf Boxwood
(Buxus microphylla) Perennial. Zones 6 - 9.
Native range—Japan. A lovely evergreen shrub, can grow 4 feet tall and wide. Tolerates shearing well. Slow growth rate. Prefers moist, well-draining soil. Smallest leaves among boxwood varieties, resulting in denser foliage. Protect from winter winds.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Mix seeds with moist soil. Place in a plastic bag or container.
STRATIFICATION: After soaking seeds, start 30 days cold/moist (5°C), in your fridge is a good spot for this. Inspect seeds periodically for even moisture/sprouting.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds 1/8” deep. Seeds prefer temperatures of 15-20°C for germination. Keep soil moist.
GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 20-40 days.
