Basil Seeds - Tulsi, Temperate

Temperate Tulsi is an excellent choice for Northern gardener’s, the plants are quick to mature and can tolerate cooler temperatures well. This variety even has success self-seeding for the following season, which is very unusual for a basil. A great choice for Tulsi tea lovers, as its flavour is sweet and pronounced. Temperate Tulsi has pink-purplish flowers that can be cut back to promote further leaf growth or left for your local pollinators. Can plant more than one harvest in a season! Compact growth habitat.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
TIMING: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before final frost date. Harden off seedlings before transplanting outdoors, after all risk of frost has passed. Can be direct sown after risk of frost.
GERMINATION: 7-10 days. Prefers warm soil to germinate, 18°C-21°C. Keep soil moist until germination.
SEEDING: Sow seeds 1/8” deep. Space plants 12”-18” apart. Space rows 18”-24” apart.
GROWING: Prefers compost rich soil. Once plants are 6” tall, pinch off the growing tips—this will help the plants become bushy. Keep an eye on flowering mid-summer, remove flowers to extend its leafy growing life (can also leave some for the bees).
HARVESTING: Use pinched off tips as needed throughout the Summer or cut whole plant before frost. Use fresh or dried.
