Cranberry Seeds - American High Bush

High bush cranberry is a plant I remember from childhood. We had a big bush growing next to my mother's little cedar shingled greenhouse. She didn't know that they were edible so the berries were always left for the birds.
You CAN eat high bush cranberries, and they are actually sweeter than the true, low bush cranberries! Berries are early ripening too!
You can eat the berries fresh, cook with them or make preserves. In the Spring, the bush is covered with showy, white ombrelles.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS **Difficult

SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Mix seeds with moist soil. Place in a plastic bag or container.
STRATIFICATION: After soaking seeds, start 90 days warm/moist (15-20°C), check seeds periodically for signs of mold. Next, 60 days cold/moist (5°C), in your fridge is a good spot for this. Inspect seeds periodically for even moisture/sprouting.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow seeds on the soil surface, lightly cover and tamp down gently. Seeds require light to germinate. Ideal soil temperature of 15°C for germination.
GERMINATION: Seeds are naturally slow and erratic to germinate and will continue to sprout throughout the year.
