Witch Hazel Seeds - North American
(Hamamelis virginiana) Perennial. Zones 4 - 8.
Witch Hazel is a lovely native tree, found mostly on the edges of forests, throughout Eastern North America.
Witch Hazel has a long history of use in dowsing, finding underground sources of water or earthly leylines. It is also a very strong medicinal plant whose astringency is helpful in drawing out toxins and for use as a styptic (something that will slow or stop bleeding.)
Witch Hazel stands at 15-20 feet when fully grown and uniquely flowers in the fall, with tiny yellow blooms.
*Germination of 60-80%*

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
For best results, sow seeds outdoors in Spring. If starting indoors...
SEED PRETREATMENT: Soak seeds in water for 24-48 hours, replace water after 24 hours. Mix seeds with a moistened grow medium equal to 3-4 times seed volume. Place in a plastic bag, covered tray/cells or container.
STRATIFICATION: Start 120 days warm/moist (20°C), the top of your fridge is a good spot for this. Monitor for mold. Next, 90 days cold/moist (5°C), in your fridge is a good spot for this. Inspect periodically for even moisture and germination.
POST-STRATIFICATION: Sow stratified seeds 1/4” deep. Alternating soil temperatures during the day (27°C) and night (15°C) can aid germination. Water evenly and regularly.
GERMINATION: When all previously mentioned requirements are fulfilled, germination generally occurs in 30-60 days.
