White Russian Mulberry (Morus alba tatarica) Zones 4-8. This mulberry is a cold hardy Russian variety, first introduced to North America by Russian Mennonites in the late 1800s. These berries are sweet, but less so than red varieties. Wonderful to cook with or to dry for winter use. The trees are quite lovely, reaching 30 feet. Unpicked berries are a great food source for wild birds. Seeds require 60 days of cold moist stratification to awaken.  Each packet contains 50 open pollinated seeds.

Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) Zones 4-10 This prickly plant is awesome for living borders! The tree grows to 30 feet and grown as a thick hedge it can keep livestock in the pen, or deer out of your garden. Ideal for woven fences, but wear heavy gloves while working with these thorns! Decorative fruit is inedible, however the seeds can be dried and eaten as one might use sunflower seeds. The wood of osage orange is rot resistance and unappealing to wood boaring insects, making it ideal for long lasting building projects. Seeds require 30 days of cold moist stratification to awaken.
